Our U/18’s were again impressive when they beat St Mary’s by 17-3 in
the league. 2 tries by Martin Casey along with one from Craig Phayer
ensured another good win.

In a friendly match played in Coonagh on Saturday, our Under 13s went
down on a scoreline of 37-24 to a very committed and hard working
Abbeyfeale side. Try scorers for Shannon were Greg O'Shea who grabbed
a hat trick and Andrew Cusack.

The U/16’s beat St Senans in a friendly by 20-10 while the U/12’s had
a couple of good displays against Thomond.

14 Nov 2007
The U/18’s had a great win over Garryowen by 29-10 while the U/13’s
helped themselves to four tries in a 24-0 victory over UL/Bohs. First
on the score sheet was winger Evan Fitzgerald who touched down after
5 minutes and then Greg O’Shea went under the posts. Mark Mc Kenna’s
conversion made it 12 nil at half time and with Jack Dineen crossing
and another by Greg O’Shea it made for a comprehensive win and
performance from the lads.

The U/18's had a great win away to Ennis while the U/16's were narrowly
beaten by Garryowen in a friendly. This Sunday the 18's are away to
Garryowen and the U/13's and U/14's entertain UL/Bohemian in Coonagh at
11:00.

Our U/18’s continue their unbeaten run in the league when they
comfortably beat Old Crescent by 24-5. All the work was impressively
carried out in the first half with Andrew Graham, Neil Mc Donagh and
Adrian Henegar all crossing the try line. The lads eased off somewhat
in the second half and allowed Old Crescent into the game, but really
they were in a comfort zone throughout despite not scoring any more.
The U/18’s play a highly entertaining brand of rugby and are a joy to
watch when they’re in full flow and with only a drawn point dropped
so far their progress in the league has been quite satisfying for the
coaches. One of our U/18's Luke O'Dea has a big weekend ahead of him
when he heads to Dublin for an Irish youths Trial. A highly talented
player , Luke will no doubt impress and hopefully he will become our
first Youth International for some time.

Its three out of three for the Under 13's following their 24-12 victory
over Old Crescent at Rosbrien. Hooker and Man of the Match Tim Sheehan
got our first try after seven minutes, but we had to wait until the
second half before Kevin Dillon and Robbie Deegan added to the tally.
Quick thinking by scrum half Diarmuid Reidy ensured victory when his
perfectly timed pass to the onrushing Conor Glynn who made no mistake
for the fourth try. Ronan McKenna added two conversions. Captain for
the match was Conor Burns. This Sunday they face Thomond in Woodview
while our only other game sees the U/15’s host Newcastlewest.

Shannon U/12s made a clean sweep at the Ealing Festival of Rugby in
London this week-end. They won the "A" tournament and the two "B"
teams won through as finalists in the "B" competition and it was
decided they should not play the final but share it as winners.

The Michael Yelverton Tournament was the main focus of attention for
our underage last weekend and once again it proved an enormous
success. Eight teams from around Munster competed throughout the day
and there certainly was some excellent rugby on view. The sun shone
which helped and the ay was rounded off perfectly from a Shannon
perspective when our lads qualified for the final against UL/Bohs.
It was a cracker of a final with very little to choose between the
sides and it took an injury time 3 pointer to separate two very good
sides. The Yelverton family deserve a huge amount of credit for their
tremendous efforts not only on the day, but for their input into
organising the event. Many thanks also to all the referees that
helped out.

Elsewhere at underage the U/14's played Garryowen in a friendly and
drew 25 a piece and against the same opposition the U/13's turned in
a highly impressive performance. It's not often you hear of a hat-trick
of tries in rugby, but we have a player who did better than that -
how about four in the one match. Take a bow Greg O'Shea. Greg, playing
in the outside centre position caused Garryowen all kinds of problems
in the North Munster League. His four try haul was added to by James
Clancy, in his first league start this season, and outhalf Joey Purcell
added three conversions to put the result beyond doubt. Well done to
the full panel for an excellent display.

The only game on this weekend takes place in Bruff where our U/18's
hope to maintain their good form.

It's a big weekend for our U/12's as they take the now annual
pilgrimage to our friends in Ealing. This tour has evolved into
something of a mass exodus with a staggering 104 people in the
travelling party. It's a wonderful family weekend with Mothers,
fathers, brothers and sisters all heading to London to cheer on the
46 players who will make up three separate teams in an international
blitz. The onerous task of organising the fundraising, travel
arrangements and the various other aspects that went into this
mammoth trip begin last year with the coaches and parents working
tirelessly. We wish everyone a bon voyage and the best of luck on
the field.

The U/18’s began their league campaign with a good win over Richmond
by 17-10 and this Sunday they host the Annual Michael Yelverton
tournament which begins at 11am. Other underage fixtures see the
U/13’s play Old Crescent away.

The under 11’s first blitzs were notable for a number of reasons.
Firstly it was the first time we entered two seperate teams.
Blacks went to Ballina/Kilaloe, and Blues went to Bruff. It was
also the first time playing with contested scrums and lineouts, and
the lads coped very well, winning their own and some of the oppositions
too. Open play, rucks , mauls and passing were better than anything
shown in training, and this led the way for the tries that followed.
I could not name any players in paticular as every one gave their best.
There is a great season ahead based on these performances!

26 Sept 2007
The U15's had another comprehensive win in the league while the Under
13s began their League campaign with an emphatic 40-12 victory over
Ennis .Tries from Tim Sheahan, Andrew Cusack, Coarie O'Keeffe, Russell
Msakwa (2) and Jack Kearney were added to by five conversions by
Captain Ronan McKenna. Our forwards played particularly well, having
a distinct advantage over Ennis at the set piece. This week they
continue they league with a home game against Garryowen while the only
other underage fixture sees the U/18's begin their league against
Richmond.

09 Sept 2007
The U/15’s kept up their impressive start to the season up when they
went to Annacotty and beat UL/Bohs in the league, by 15-10. As usual
with these two sides there wasn’t much to separate them, but a
tremendous display saw our lads win out the day. There’s no let up in
fixtures for the 15’s as they face Bruff this Sunday, again in the
league, in Coonagh at 11.30.
The U/16’s and 18’s entertained Galwegians in training fixtures with a
win for the 18’s and a loss for the 16’s. On Sunday the 18’s play a
Highfield side coached by a former club player, hooker Nigel Daly.
The U/12 team is gearing up for their October tour to Ealing RFC in
London.
