Shannon Notes September 22nd 2007
There was disappointment at the weekend when our seniors exited from the Charity cup when a stronger UL/Bohs took the spoils in Coonagh. Although we started well and had plenty of possession throughout, we found it difficult to breach the try line. David O’Donovan did cross for our only try with Andrew Thompson kicking a penalty to leave the score at 18-8. We lined out with a mixture of experienced and developing players, which was certainly a positive from the game. This Saturday at 1pm we play Young Munster in a friendly in Derryknockane. Next Saturday we are in Munster Senior cup action with a long and potentially difficult trip away to Clonakilty.
The seconds were given a walkover in the Transfield cup semi final by Garryowen and thus progress to this Sunday’s final against UL/Bohs in the canal bank at 3pm.
Our two other adult sides kick start their competitive season on Saturday in Coonagh with the U/20’s playing UL/Bohs in the North Munster league at 2.30pm and the thirds begin the defence of their Gleeson league crown at 3.30 against St Marys.
At underage our U/13’s were just a whisker away from winning the annual Pat Lawlor Blitz last Saturday, but despite putting in a magnificent performance in the final, they were beaten by a single try against Galwegians. Other underage results saw the U15’s keep up their good in the league when they had a comfortable victory against Bruff, while the U/18’s beat Waterpark in a friendly by 18-13.
Fixtures this week sees The U/15’s play away to Ballina/Killaloe and the U/18’s playing Tralee in a friendly in Coonagh.
