Hi all, it was a busy week this week with all our senior sides in action. It was a mixed bag of results with losses for our seniors and thirds but a bonus point win for our ladies. We were struck with very unfortunate luck this week to have two players break legs on the pitch, we would like to wish Alan Fitzgerald and Helena Hanrahan a speedy recovery and we hope to see them back in action sooner rather than later.
Our firsts were back home in Thomond Park after two weeks on the road. The match started fantastically for Shannon with a first minute try but the result didn’t go our way in the end, with Naas just pipping us 14-10. We came away from the encounter with a losing bonus point. Read all about the match in our match centre here.
Our seconds lined out to play Garryowen in Coonagh on Monday night however the match was abandoned after fifteen minutes due to Alan Fitzgerald’s injury. We would like to extend a massive thanks to all of the medical staff on duty on the night who offered help and support to Alan and especially thank the Garryowen player who happened to be a doctor and offered his help too.
Our thirds took to Dooradoyle in the Gleeson League this weekend to take on Garryowen. It was a closely fought affair with the thirds unluck to lose out on the day with the final score reading 29-16.
Our ladies got their league campaign back on track this weekend with a bonus point win over Clonmel in Cooangh. The girls were delighted with the result and will be looking ahead to their first local derby of the year when they take on Richmond next week. For this weekend, it’s a hard-earned rest. Our U14s kept up the good work so far this season and maintained their unbeaten streak so far. They were away to Ballina-Killaloe in the league and won the match well. The lads put on a great display of team rugby and can be very proud of their win. They welcome Kilrush to Coonagh this weekend.
Our U13s put in an excellent squad performance in Killaloe on Sunday with the final score ending up 15-7. Each of the lads stepped up and made themselves counted again and the team have so far gone from strength to strength this season.
Our U12s have a big weekend ahead of them as they head away on their long anticipated tour to Biarritz. They have been fundraising all year and for a large portion of last year too so it is a well-deserved break for the lads. Lee Nicholas was on hand last week to present them with some of their gear. (photos here) The lads are leaving on Friday and will be all style with their especially commissioned jerseys for the weekend!
Our girls underage section were in Cork this weekend for a blitz. Our u18s had a fantastic win but our U15s weren't as lucky narrowly losing out. Well done to all of the girls on a great display of rugby!!
The lotto for the last week showed no winners.
