It was back to action for our Senior Firsts and our Ladies this weekend with the former welcoming UCC to a weather-beaten Thomond Park. The pitch held up well for the encounter and the lads did the necessary and came away with a well-earned win. We have held our position on the table in eight place and are looking forward to this weekend’s fixture against Naas. Find a match report for the encounter here. We would also like to wish Adam Moloney all the best for a speedy recovery in the injury he picked up this weekend.
It was heartbreak for our ladies who, after a really strong season ended their league campaign in Tralee. In abysmal conditions, they took to the pitch with a strong side. The Ladies had the wind at their backs in the first half and spent the majority of the half inside Tralee’s 22. They hammered the Tralee line for extended periods but to credit Tralee their defence was faultless and our Ladies didn’t manage to get much needed points on the board. Captain Valerie Power did manage to slot over a penalty leaving the score 3-0 at half time. The second half saw a role reversal and Tralee with the wind to their backs, spent time camped in the Shannon half. They worked the ball down towards the line and managed to crash over for a converted try. The match continued in the same vein with neither team giving an inch. Shannon battled on until the last second of this bruising encounter but it wasn’t to be on the day and Tralee emerged victorious and will head onto the final. The Ladies will go on to a third/fourth place play off now and will then turn all their attention towards the Cup in April.
Our u12s travelled to Willow Park on Saturday to take part in a blitz. We fielded three teams on the day and won 15 out of the 18 matches that were player. Well done to the u12s on a fantastic outing and on representing the club so well! The lads had a great day and played some really strong rugby, it was a great success overall!
