Hi all,

We are back in AIL action this weekend with our Firsts welcoming Galwegians to Thomond Park to kick off the second half of the season. The importance of the coming weeks is something we all understand so please come along and offer your support to the team. As always we will be holding our pre-match functions. This weekend is already shaping up to be a busy one with only limited seats available. Contact Kevin now to book your spot. The same value as always applies with €20 for match entry and a three course meal. Looking forward to seeing you there!

The seconds are kicking off the all important Junior Cup on Sunday with a home fixture to Thomond in Coonagh on Sunday. The Seconds are chomping at the bit to get the competition kicked off for another year and it’s shaping up to be a great match. Come along and lend your support, cup rugby is always an entertaining fixture!

It’s all to play for, for our thirds this coming weekend when the Gleeson League takes them to Richmond for a 2.30pm kick off. Last Saturday was another successful outing for our thirds who took on Young Munster in the Gleeson League in Coonagh. In freezing conditions with a strong wind, the thirds emerged with their usual composure and got straight to business. A brace of tries and another solid team performance with a fantastic work rate between the forwards and the backs saw the thirds emerge victorious by a 43-3 score line.

Our Ladies have a well-deserved weekend off this week after a comprehensive win against Richmond in Coonagh on Sunday. The ladies got down to business from kick off and despite a few players playing out of position, began to exert their dominance. The backs in particular, were dangerous with ball in hand and we were delighted to see newcomers Ciara Casey O’Halloran and Leslie Walsh cross the line for their first Shannon score. The girls got sucked into a forward’s battle in the second half and Richmond went over for two well worked tries but the first half scores built up by the Shannon girls proved too much to match and the game finished 41-12. The Ladies have no match this weekend coming and aren’t back in action again until the following week where they play Richmond again in the Cup.

Our U15s Shannon RFC/ St. Senans U15 combination team report comes from Vinny Ryan this week. The u15s showed great character, after conceding two soft tries, to come back and beat UL Bohs/ Richmond by the narrowest of margins 24 – 25. This hard-earned win came after Shannon started well and went 10 points to nil up. UL Bohs came back into it scoring four tries. The lead changed several times during this highly competitive game. Shannon’s character was tested when they conceded two tries in the second half. Determination and no little skill saw Shannon triumph when scoring the winning try just two minutes from the end. The second half injury to second row Sean Falvey was the only down side to this emphatic win. We wish him a speedy recovery. Shannon scorers; Liam Murphy (13) 2 Tries, Kieran Ryan (12) 1 Try, Darragh Whelan (14) 1 Try, Aaron Kelly (10) 1 Pen, 1 Con.

Shannon RFC/ St Senans RFC U15; Gearoid Ryan, Conor O Grady, Jack Coady, Sean Falvey, Jacob Markievitz, Jack Purcell, Rory Shanahan, Joey Ryall, Joe Dougan, Aaron Kelly, Darragh Whelan, Kieran Ryan, Liam Murphy, Eoin Jordan, Adam O Sullivan. Subs used; Jacob Beck, Andrew Nolan.

It was an unlucky result for both our u15s and u18s girls’ teams who lined out against Listowel in Munchins this weekend. The girls put in a good effort until the end of the match but it just wasn’t their day for a finish.

It was similar fate for our Shannon/St. Marys u18s who took on Ennis in Coonagh on Sunday. Ennis have gone from strength to strength this season and have won all matches. Shannon put up a good fight and kept battling until the end, not taking the pressure off. The score ended up 26-15 to Ennis but it was a good display form our U18s.

We are delighted to have our Champ or Chimp forms completed and they are already filtering out!! Some of you may have got the initial email explaining the rule changes for this year; head over to our website for a run down if not. We also have a form for download attached to the bottom. We will be launching an online payment facility this year for any members living outside Limerick or abroad. Find this years form on our website!! Click here!
