We couldn’t start the weekly notes without acknowledging the historic win we all witnessed this weekend as Ireland finally beat the All Blacks! It was a fantastic game of rugby and we would like to congratulate our history makers, Donnacha Ryan, Sean Cronin and CJ Stander on a fantastic feat and surely one of the highlights of their careers!
Our Senior got a win under the belt in a great display versus Dolphin last weekend. The lads were great on the day and two well worked tries from Richie Mullane and Conor Glynn as well as great kicking from Ronan McKenna saw us push through with a 17-10 victory. All the best to Robbie Deegan who was unfortunate to dislocate his shoulder during the match, we hope to see him back in action again very soon. Find the match report here. This weekend the lads take on UL Bohs on the 4g pitch in UL. It won’t be an easy fixture so make sure you come out and lend your support to the team, we now see what they are capable of and need to keep up the support to cheer them on again!
Our u20s took on Garryowen in Coonagh in a local Friday Night Lights Derby. The cold and wind made for challenging conditions but Shannon took the lead early and maintained control over the match. Darren Gavin was the only try scorer of the match and Marcus McMenemy was on hand to slot over a conversion and a penalty. Garryowen landed a good penalty but it wasn’t enough and the match ended 10-3 to Shannon. Well done to the 20s who put in a solid team performance and played intelligent rugby suitable to the conditions.
Our Ladies rounded off a perfect weekend for the Senior section of the club with a bonus point win over Richmond. The match ended up 40-0 and the ladies are well on the way to putting their stamp on the league this season. Find the match report here. Special Mention to Ellie Brislane who is heading off to New Zealand for the year. Ellie is a fantastic player and positive force on the team, she will be missed around the ladies set up and the club.
Our U18s girls were on the 4G pitch in UL to play Newport in the return fixture of last week’s match. There was a fantastic display of rugby put on and neither team backed away from the challenge. Shannon were more organised on the day though and walked away with a 26-14 victory.
Our U15s girls also recorded a win this weekend taking on St. Mary’s in Grove island in a hugely competitive fixture. Both teams put up a good fight but it was Shannon who emerged victorious with the final score reading 20-10.
To round off a fantastic weekend of rugby in the club our U13s impressed greatly as they took to the pitch in their first ever league fixture. They lined out in Coonagh facing St. Senans and racked up 27 points to St. Senans 12. Well done to the lads, they have gone from strength to strength already this season and are playing some fantastic rugby.
Our U12s were out in Bruff to play in the James Keating Memorial Rugby Festival. Shannon had two teams on the day, the Black team and the Blue team. Both teams did really well on the day!!
Well done to our Clubhouse bar-manager Kevin O’Brien on reffing his first match this weekend!
